Founded in 1969, the German Coffee Association e.V. is the overall representation of the German coffee industry. Its 95 member companies and 37 associate members representing the entire spectrum of the industry. The assocciation maintains an institutional arbitration. The institution is in particular competent for all disputes arising out of coffee shops between its members, but not for quality arbitration. If agreed, an arbitration tribunal can also hear disputes between members and non-members or only between non-members. Since January 2006, the arbitration institution is administered by the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.
