Higher Regional Court

The Higher Regional Court of Hamburg has appellate jurisdiction over decisions of the Regional Court of Hamburg in private law matters and decisions of the District Courts in family law matters.

In criminal law matters the Higher Regional Court of Hamburg serves as court of first instance in certain national-security related offences if and when the German Federal Attorney General acts as prosecuting authority.

Certain decisions of the Regional Court of Hamburg as court of first instance in criminal matters can be appealed to the Higher Regional Court. Decisions of the Regional Court of Hamburg as an appeals court in criminal matters can be further appealed on matters of law only to the Higher Regional Court of Hamburg.
