Erfahrung
Axel advised clients and sat as arbitrator in more than 40 proceedings under the rules of DIS, SCC, GMAA, ICC, Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Riga District Court of Arbitration, ad hoc proceedings under UNCITRAL rules and UNUM rules.
He is admitted to the bar since 2004 and started his career in the boutique law firm Lebuhn & Puchta in Hamburg and specialised on maritime law. Before starting his current position as partner of Koch Duken Boës 2018, Axel worked from 2014 through 2017 as Of Counsel for the international lawfirm Norton Rose Fulbright.
Curriculum vitae
Shipping, arbitration and Russia are the threads through the career of Axel Boës. Axel studied law in Mainz, Chambéry (France) and Hamburg and received a doctor’s degree from the university of Hamburg, the topic of his thesis being the law on limited liability companies in Russia.
Axel started his career in a shipping boutique firm in Hamburg and before joining KDB.legal KOCH BOËS as a partner in 2018, he worked as Of Counsel at Norton Rose Fulbright.
Axel has extensive experience in complex litigation and arbitration matters, particularly in international transportation and maritime law. Axel’s clients include German and foreign insurance companies, shipping companies and ship owners whom he regularly represents in disputes before state courts and in arbitration matters. A main aspect of his work is representing clients in dispute matters related to Russia and advising Russian-speaking clients. Axel has sat as an arbitrator under the rules of DIS, GMAA, Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Riga District Court of Arbitration and acted as counsel in arbitration under the rules of LMAA, ICC and Stockholm Chamber of Commerce as well.
Axel holds a lecture on international transportation and maritime law at the university of St. Petersburg and is a board member of the German-Russian law association and a member of GMAA, DVIS and DFJV. He is the only German qualified lawyer on the list of arbitrators of the Maritime Arbitration Commission of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
